What Magento Upgrades Cost, as Agencies Publish It

Two agencies publish a price for the audit, one publishes a range for the upgrade, two publish a monthly fee, and four publish an hourly band on Clutch.

This guide holds only figures that appear on an agency's own page or its Clutch profile, read on 22 September 2026. It does not estimate what your upgrade will cost, because no page does that either: every figure below is either a rate, a range, a product price or a retainer, and the number for a given store comes out of the audit. The first edition of this site carried an hours estimate for a 40-extension store; it had no source and was removed in this edition.

What drives the number

The agencies that publish a process agree on what is being counted. scandiweb's upgrade page maps the current version, custom code, extensions, integrations and hosting in its audit step; Wagento's upgrade page lists core files, patches, PHP compatibility, extensions and integrations, database, theme and performance; integer_net's audit page names core alterations that make future updates troublesome and the most important third-party extensions; Inchoo's audit page names third-party extension inspection and theme static code analysis. Read together, the estimate is a function of extension count, custom module count, theme override count, integration count and catalog size, and not of the version number on the invoice. A near-stock store one release behind and a forty-extension store four releases behind are different products at the same target version.

Hourly bands are not quotes

Four agencies here have a Clutch hourly band, and they span four to one, with scandiweb and Inchoo at $50 to $99, Wagento at $100 to $149 and SwiftOtter at $150 to $199. A band multiplied by a guessed hour count is still a guess. The band is useful for one thing, which is reading the change-request rate after the fixed part of the work is agreed. Three agencies, Vendic, integer_net and Elgentos, publish no hourly rate, and Netresearch publishes nothing, so for those four the audit or the retainer page is the whole price list.

Retainers against projects

Two agencies price the months after go-live rather than the upgrade itself. Elgentos's Total Care page puts proactive upgrades, security patches, a monthly changelog, automated tests and an annual re-audit inside a fixed fee of 1,500 to 7,000 euros a month, so for a store on that plan the next version step has no separate invoice. Vendic's Protect page prices patching and a 60-minute response on a fixed monthly fee set at intake, and excludes the annual Magento and PHP upgrade, which is quoted on its own. scandiweb's upgrade page takes a third position, a project price fixed after the audit for a store it does not run and free upgrades for stores it builds and runs. A buyer comparing the three has to add a year of the retainer to the project price, or a year of patching to the retainer, before the numbers line up.

The license line

For an Adobe Commerce store on 2.4.6, one more line belongs on the sheet. Adobe's lifecycle page gives extended support to 31 August 2027 for Adobe Commerce and a security-only period of isolated fixes to 31 May 2028, so a renewal bought to hold those dates is a stretch of patches on a version that still has to be upgraded afterward. Inchoo and Vendic both publish a page on leaving the license for Magento Open Source; Vendic's names Topa Verpakkingen at zero license cost per year, and neither publishes a migration price. The comparison is the renewal plus the upgrade against the migration plus the upgrade, and the two audits above are the cheapest way to get both sides quoted.

What to ask for on every quote

  • The extension-by-extension verdict with hours against each line, so the largest item in the estimate is visible
  • The upgrade price with the frontend left untouched, and the Hyvä rebuild as a separate line
  • The PHP minor assumed and the hosting change, if any, priced separately
  • The post-go-live patching as a third line, saying who applies the next Adobe security patch, in what window and at what fee
  • The change-request rate, which is what the Clutch band tells you
